Bringing March Madness to Big D
CLIENT:
2014 NCAA MEN'S BASKETBALL FINAL FOUR

THE CHALLENGE:
Tony Fay and long time collaborator Kit Sawers oversaw marketing & communications, community outreach, city-wide operations, volunteer coordination and VIP services for the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four at AT&T Stadium. His group also managed financial services for the Local Organizing Committee, and worked hand-in-hand with the NCAA to ensure a successful experience for the more than 150,000 visitors to North Texas that week. The tournament was an unprecedented success setting single-day and tournament attendance records for the nearly eight-decade old event.

“After the success of our Super Bowl Host Committee and the way it galvanized our community, we knew we wanted that continuity for our Final Four. Tony (Fay) has the respect of the leaders in this region, and we knew we wanted him to help lead this charge.”

-- CHARLOTTE JONES ANDERSON, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF BRAND OFFICERS OF THE DALLAS COWBOYS.

The Result

Fay identified and helped negotiate Reunion Park (the old site of Dallas’ Reunion Arena) as the site for the Final Four’s signature concert series, which was headlined by Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, The Killers and Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band. He also coordinated the implementation of the SLANT program, which after its unprecedented success in the lead up to Super Bowl XLV was revived to serve as the primary youth initiative for the tournament. Ultimately, 10,000 local elementary school students participated in the program.
